Bob and Gene are archival obscurities who recorded in the late 'sixties and early 'seventies. These recordings sound pretty raw sonically - the soul equivalent of the recordings of garage rock bands from the same era. The vocal arrangements are old-timey doo-wop in a harmonic sense; the instrumentation is spare and tasteful, more bubblegum than funk.

This is a real labour of love on the part of The people at Daptone Records, who have gone and done a resurrection job on tapes that have literally been in a basement for decades.
