Ridiculous that we have copies of this and the Studio One Classics.

When this came out it set a new standard in Reggae re-issues. Suddenly all those Trojan 'ignore the quality feel the width' collections looked very shabby indeed.

Studio One proprieter Lord Coxsone himself gave Soul Jazz access to the Studio One archives and officially sanctioned the release after he saw some of Soul Jazz's Jazz releases. The compilers were undoubtedly helped by the incredible quality of Studio Ones production values from day one of operation making mastering a cinch.

Musically it covers a broad range of Studio One's output - Rocksteady, Reggae, Ska and Funk (more Funk inflected Reggae than pure Funk but the influence is strong).

The selection is still top notch as is the packaging and accompanying booklet, which gives an excellent synopsis of the Studio One story.
