The White Stripes were one of the best bands playing in terms of song production. Get Behind Me Satan put them to the test. They got rid of the the guitars and the distortion and still produced an album that rocks harder than any of their contemporaries. Except, now they have diversity, rhythm, melody, and experimentation. And despite what most avid White Stripes fans seem to think, it all works. This is the better, riper side of the White Stripes catalog, and in lieu of Icky Thump, you can appreciate their ability to rock out without standard rock noise. "My Doorbell" "As Ugly As I Seem" "Take, Take, Take" are some of the most impressive and catchiest songs this millennium. But then again, all of the music here is good, and even if not all of the songs are great this works well as a cohesive album.
