On Abbath the ex- Immortal frontman didn't go for a large enough contrast in relation to his earlier material, but the end product was still a very decent concoction of simple, riff-centric thrashy "light" black metal. For his second solo album, Abbath, seems to finally make a conscious effort to deviate from a life-long formula.
Outstrider is of course recognisable as Abbath's handiwork due to his trademark vocals and riffing style, combined with an all too familiar guitar tone, but the material itself is more melodic and fluid.
