Just a year and a half after their fantastic debut Castaways and Cutouts, the Decemberists returned with their second album, Her Majesty The Decemberists.

Generally, it seems like more of the same from the band, once again in many places we have that similar fusion of Neutral Milk Hotel-esque indie pop and folk music, with lead singer and lyricist Colin Meloy providing tales about serious subjects such as war and domestic abuse or more personal stories about adolescent angst and love, but managing to add a poetic, historical twist on many of these stories.

Meloy also wears many of his literary influences on his sleeve here, with luminaries such as Dylan Thomas ("Billy Liar"), William Blake ("The Chimbley Sweep") and Myla Goldberg (She's the subject of an entire song!) being referenced here consistently.
