Kelley Stoltz is one of the most creative and innovative songwriters to have emerged in the first two decades of the 21st century but he remains relatively unknown compared to the myriad of singer-songwriters which dubious hipster-taste-making magazines/websites continue to promote.
From 'Circular Sounds' (2008) to 'In Triangle Time' (2015), it would seem that the American musician is fascinated by geometrical patterns but this time around his music is more asymetrical than ever, which makes it totally unpredictable and always challenging with extremely sophisticated yet unhinged melodies. All in all, this album is the polar opposite of 'easy-listening music' though it is pleasant to the ear overall.
It is at once thoroughly modern and clearly indebted to such groundbreaking artists as David Bowie and Howard Devoto/Magazine.
A rewarding listen, for sure.
