TIM HECKER - Ravedeath 1972 2LP

Ravedeath 1972 plays out the sad and painful decline of music in Tim Hecker's eyes, the abandonment of values like acquiring music legally and listening to albums in their entirety rather than singular, popular tracks, and the unending consumption and disposal of so much music. As if to make a point, amidst the classic walls of noise and drone that Hecker feeds into his album, both the piano and organ make prominent appearances, a nod towards the movement away from classical sounds and instrumentation to an electronic fueled future, one that has been encroaching for some time. Ravedeath lays forth a wasteland, a chaotic musical space with only a few outspoken bastions of the "old world" left to defend against the cheapened masses that have supposedly obliterated all that was once good.

Recording in a church heightens the power of this release; yet another symbol of a dying era, one with good intentions at heart that has slowly and surely been eroded from within.
