A. SAVAGE - Several Songs About Fire LP
Highly recommended.
So, Savage sat down and wrote some god damn songs for this album. Let me tell you about it a little bit. The record opens up with an exploration of an emotional landscape that should be incredibly familiar to most listeners. Not necessarily because you’ve already been a fan of Parquet Courts or his solo work, but more generally just by… I dunno, being alive the last few years.
It opens with a comforting, patient guitar melody and these words:
“Hollowed face stranger / Just who might you be? / In the mirror, someone's crying / With the same eyes as me”.
This opening bit touches on that specific feeling of dissociation and self-alienation that hordes of great artists have described before, and yet somehow Savage finds a new way to phrase things that hit home just a little bit extra.
