JOHNNY CASINO - High Stone LP
Highly recommended.
Some of the greatest times of my 55 years have revolved around watching Johnny play guitar, sitting across from him in a pub, standing beside him watching another great band or arguing about how the AFL destroyed a once-great game... Seeing him at The Old Bar recently was a truly special night. Love ya Johnny (and even more so, Mayra)
Johnny Casino (AKA Johnny Spittles) is a bit of an Oz rock 'n roll legend. He started making his name with Sydney's high-energy gonzo-rock kings, Asteroid B-612, 30+ years ago, and has since carved out a global audience with many excellent solo recordings.
Now residing in Spain, High Stone is his love letter, of sorts, to the city of Philadelphia, where he lived from 1997-2001.
Recorded in that fine city, he had The Apostles as his backing band, then had it mixed and mastered by Mike Mariconda (Raunch Hands, New Bomb Turks) in Spain and - after many delays - it is finally finished and out on Cheersquad Records.
Superb, soulful, boogified rock 'n roll.
