MAGNETIC FIELDS - House of Tomorrow 12"
Remastered and available as a 12" for the first time.
When Susan Anway, who sang on early albums Distant Plastic Trees and The Wayward Bus, left the group, Stephin Merritt stepped up to the microphone. He sought to sound simple, subtle, and unobtrusive, à la the Japanese concept of shibusa. Likewise, the arrangements and production of The House of Tomorrow felt less polished overall than on its predecessors, even as the band’s sound was evolving.
All of these songs could be highlights in some of Magnetic Field's early albums, but in an EP without filler to distract, the songs stand out and each one feels like a little piece of synthpop ear-candy. All the songs are basicly short synth loops with Merritt singing on them, yet the repetivity doesnt strain since each song is only 2 minutes and a half long.
