Nonesuch
WILCO - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 2LP (colour vinyl)
Limited edition indie exclusive creamy white colour double vinyl. Black wax also available.
There are pearls of wisdom on this album.
The chorus to "Radio Cure" - "Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable" - is the best example. A lyric that gets right to the heart of what Tweedy's masterpiece is all about. One that links the distance between lovers ("I Am Trying To Break Your Heart"), yourself and home ("Kamera"), past and present ("Heavy Metal Drummer") and even counties ("War On War").
The albums title, which crops at the end of "Poor Places", is a phonetic brainteaser - anyone know the significance of YHF? - that expands on the themes of miscommunication.
There are nuggets of nonsense here too. Look no further than the opening line - "I'm an American aquarium drinker, I assassin down the avenue" - to see Jeff flicking through the "A" section of his dictionary.
Fortunately there are more of the former than the latter.
