Mojave 3 expanded both their line-up and ambitions for Out of Tune. With Simon Rowe and Alan Forrester joining as full-time members, the group relocated to a farmhouse in Cornwall, converting a cowshed into a studio where the album first took shape. The communal setting fostered a collaborative approach, with the band developing a fuller, more energetic sound inspired by the shared spirit of groups like The Band.

Recorded with producer Tony Doogan, known for his work with Belle & Sebastian, the album took shape through extensive recording, remixing and refinement. The result is a bright and confident collection that pairs richer arrangements, including pedal steel and brass, with some of Neil Halstead’s strongest songwriting. Drawing more from Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Gram Parsons than the dream-pop of Slowdive, Out of Tune captures Mojave 3 at their most expansive and direct.
