The Fall with a new line-up - except keyboard mistress Elena Poulou - reached a new level of the highest avant-garde, probably spoofing Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab as MES titled the album Imperial Wax Solvent. The synths throughout the album sound like cavalry regiment is whetting the sabres and torturing horses. It also includes the crazy rhythm-changing suite "50 Year Old Man", with banjo interlude, celebrating Mark E. Smith fifty years birthday:
"That Steve Albini, he's in collusion with Virgin trains against me. I'm a fifty year old man, but it won't get me. I got a three foot rock hard on, but I'm too busy to use it".
