GUINEA WORMS - Sorcererers Of Madness 4rd Year In A Row 2LP
Highest recommendation.
Regulars to Strangeworld over our 10+ year existence may have heard me mention my love of Columbus, OH's GUINEA WORMS. The influence of Glasgow's THE YUMMY FUR is readily apparent in everything the Guinea Worms do - video clips, song structures, guitar lines and those oh-so cheeky lyrics. We've had PLENTY of people ask us to source Guinea Worms and here is one, lone copy.
But Richie, what do the Guinea Worms sound like?
Downer-punk exiled on some seedy street in Columbus, Ohio. Fans of fine Midwest slop-rock, as well as the early Grifters records, would do well to look up this one. It's a fuming beast of guitar squall and swagger. It throws out riffs like empty beer cans. Over a two-record set, The Guinea Worms offer mean rockers, weird and twitchy melodies, and goofy drunken moments, with big guitars smeared all over like black paint. This thing has heft, and not just because of the gatefold sleeve.
The Guinea Worms and the Columbus Discount label carved up this album from umpteenth CD-Rs of unreleased material recorded from 2000 to 2009, but it all plays like a seamless statement across two LPs.
Don't make me choose one favourite Guinea Worms song.
