COLIN NEWMAN - Not To LP
It's moody music. Colin Newman (of WIRE) writes wonderful pop songs.
With "Indians" the other side of Wire is creeping in, in what is still a Colin Newman type of song. Some other songs are also old 'Wire' songs, which one can find back in Eyewitness and another off beat album released after the first implosion of Wire.
'Not To' is a record that, over the years, has largely fallen between the cracks, but for fans of Wire's more dissonant 70's output it's still a bit of a treat. It's actually the last of Colin's solo releases to draw from the same wellspring as 70's Wire, but minus Lewis and Gilbert's always endearing spanner-in-the-works approach. It's almost like a cleaned up version of 'Document and Eyewitness.'
