Easily one of the best US post-punk records, hardly reducible to post-punk, even. The thing that separates these guys from legions of later dickaround noise rockers is that, much like prime-era Sonic Youth, they had a real talent for uncanny hooks, an intelligent and purposeful use of so-called "noise" (i.e., dissonant and atonal music), tons of variety in their music, and interesting, often haunting lyrics.
