BUFFALO TOM - Quiet And Peace LP
Nicely priced. One copy only.
Quiet And Peace is quite simply a delight. There is so much going on, but it asks questions and seems to be helping the listener come to terms with ageing. At one point on the slow and stately acoustic track “See High The Hemlock Grows”, Colborn demands “See my hands grow old”. It is a lovely image that I think we can all understand; we have all looked at our hands as we age, seeing and remarking on the difference, and the band are there with us. But there is also vibrancy and joy. The J Mascis-like blast of a guitar solo on ”Lonely Fast And Deep” proves the band can still fly if they need to, and brings to mind the helter skelter craziness of the likes of “Velvet Roof” or “Your Stripes”.
For a band to be so vibrant and essential at this point in their career is testament to just how well they work together, and to the adage less is more.
