A powerful, raw, personal album that does away with all the pretension and perfectionism of his last few records. Here he sounds angry, distressed, and uneasy with his exposure as a hip-hop celebrity. Kendrick still experiments with new sounds (especially on Pride, Love, and career-highlight XXX), but expresses these ideas in a way that is immediate and relatable. In fact, there is more variety on here than any of his previous records.
