GUNTER SCHICKERT & PETER UNSICKER - Mauerharfe LP
$51.95
Limited to 300 copies.
Includes bonus CD.
In August of 1990 kosmische musik legend Gunter Schickert and his gallerist friend, Peter Unsicker, embarked on a revolutionary musical project. They persuaded officers of the GDR – only a few months after demolition of the Berlin Wall had begun – to place segments of the wall in front of Unsicker's gallery on the Zimmer Strasse.
With magnetic pickups, amplifiers, and piano wire that they strung between pieces of rebar jutting out of the wall's concrete, the pair created a poignant and defiant sound sculpture that Schickert would play to passersby.
Mauerharfe – literally meaning "Wall Harp" – did not survive long, but thankfully these recordings remain. This brilliant work of musical and human freedom is finally presented to the world.
