This is going to be a tough listen for some, but feel the genius, man.

These are avant garde pieces with great reliance on indeterminacy, which is not the same as improvisation, no no no, and if one were to read enough Cage one might understand why.

Cage disapproved of improv, probably because it wasn't his idea. Nevertheless, the fact is that people who play together and have an understanding will produce the best results in this type of music. Usually this is avant garde ensembles playing conventional chamber orchestral instruments. Here it is Sonic Youth and chums using electric guitars and tapes and turntables.

It sounds fantastic.
