From the opening cut, with Morrison's voice echoing from the depths of some strange otherworld, it's clear this is a different band from the one that recorded 'The Doors'. The blues is muted, almost missing, replaced with an aggressive pop-psychedelia: soaring guitars, mournful organs, marimba, harpsichord, piano, and judicious use of echo.
