ONEIDA - Preteen Weaponry LP

Highly recommended.

When listening to this band for the first time, you have to ask yourself the question.... do I like repetition in music? Not the kind of mindless repetition that pervades much of modern pop music - and I speak from recent trivia night experiences - but the kind of rhythmic, repetitive, percussive beat/strum/throb that is a feature of some of rock'n'roll's most innovative acts like the The Velvet Underground, Stooges, Krautrock bands like Can (and their minions of influence like the excellent Electrelane).

Y'see, this kind of precise, trance-inducing groove is at the heart of Oneida's sound, albeit with a psychedelic darkness and even a dash of stoner fuzz formula that works a treat for my ears.

There are three long tracks on this record, longer than usual for this band, but the layers of aural delights built on top of the lock-tight grooves pull you into their private world and initiate you into a kind of exclusive secret society.... listening to their incredible mood-altering sound gives you that gift.

So by all means pledge your allegiance to this band (and check out the back catalogue, especially Anthems of the Moon and Secret Wars)
