OOG BOGO - Video Life / I Want You Around 7"
Highly recommended.
Oog Bogo is the Los Angeles project of Kevin Boog—former bassist of Meatbodies and a fixture of the Ty Segall orbit. Having released records on Ty Segall's God? Records and In The Red, Boog has built a devoted following across the underground with his homespun, lo-fi approach to psych-punk and post-wave weirdness.
Here Oog Bogo turns to two unlikely standards and reframes them without sentimentality. Side A revisits “Video Life,” originally written and recorded by Chris Spedding in 1977—a song about image, mediation, and the strange performance of modern life.
Side B takes on “I Want You Around” by The Ramones— ne of the band’s most direct expressions of longing, first released in 1978.
Rather than updating or modernizing the material, Oog Bogo places both songs in the present tense. Two late-70s statements about desire—one filtered through media, one stripped to devotion—pressed back into circulation.
