For those of you who don't know the Sleepers - late 70s/early 80s San Francisco band fronted by Ricky Williams, who did a short stint in Crime and a shorter stint in Flipper...and followed the Sleepers with the excellent Toiling Midgets.

The Sleepers, though, are classic. Falling between punk, post-punk and psych, their sound shares space with Joy Division, PiL, and the Fall on their distraught nights.

Painless Nights came out in 1981 and disappeared into obscurity (the band split before its release). Superior Viaduct does another fine job.
