SNAPPED ANKLES - Come Play The Trees LP
Highly recommended.
A bunch of S.A. titles in stock - they're all great!
Snapped Ankles emerged from the East London squat scene, enveloped in branch-based folk monster costumes, and home-made electronic instrumentation with performance art stage moves.
Musically they're all big Gary Numan synths filtered through dance punk rhythms, which was hardly original 15 years ago and isn't now. But they have a strong line in gnomic, catchphrase song-writing which sets them apart from many of their post-LCD Soundsystem peers.
Highlight is the overtly Berlin Bowie-aping 'Johnny Guitar Calling Gosta Berlin', icy cold war communications in the 21st Century.
It's a good album, neatly constructed with an immersive sound, and an elusive quality that makes it hard to fully pin down.
